Heavy monsoon rains forced 1,127 residents from Zambales & Olongapo City to evacuate. They’re now in shelters due to significant flooding (July 22).

In Zambales, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that rising floodwaters necessitated the evacuation of 147 families, totaling 486 individuals, across seven towns. The rapid increase in water levels posed an immediate threat to residential areas, prompting authorities to act swiftly.

Meanwhile, in Olongapo City, the situation escalated on Monday evening when local rivers began to overflow around 6:50 p.m. This resulted in the displacement of 205 families, comprising 641 residents. While flooding was reported in nine barangays (neighborhoods) within the city, authorities confirmed that the waters have since receded, allowing for initial assessments of the affected areas.

The ongoing monsoon season often brings such challenges to the Philippines, and local disaster response units remain on high alert to manage the impact of further rainfall.
